Meet The Band

We are six talented and seasoned musicians with over 100 years of collective experience playing in various soul,funk and R&B bands over the years. We have now come together all as one known as "THE AFTER HOUR BAND". 

The music we play is guaranteed to get every one off their feet and dance to our funky and soulful sounds. Whether it's soul, funk, disco, jazz, blues. Our band will make your event a memorable experience for many years to come. If you want to get your party started, we can provide the ultimate entertainment for you. We can also provide upon request as a package a professional DJ along with the band.

Ed Smith

He has been a former music retailer, DJ, musician, singer, songwriter, producer and co-owner of an Independent record label with his brother "Fly" Smith (bassist, keyboardist and vocalist) who has recorded several "Funk" and "Black rock" 45's back in the day. He has also produced and recorded local Hip-Hop artist in the Central Florida area.

 

Ed is a multi instrumentalist. However, his primary instrument is guitar. He was the leader of his own band that has played at many hotels along Florida beaches and local night clubs. He has also played with many Funk, RnB and soul groups in the Florida area such as the worlds famous " Bobby Williams Band", "Colors of Sunset", a 16 piece review band called "Alonzo Watson & The Soul Messengers", "The Midnight Movers," Fly and Gang", "The Smith Bros. Band" and "The Collegiant Allstars". He has also played in a band with the Legendary Robert ""Pops" PopWell former Bassist for the Crusaders and with former Marvin Gaye Bassist Frank Blair and singer Jimmy "Bo" Horne. He comes from a musical family. His Grandfather was a professional Jazz drummer who played with Lionel Hampton, Chic Webb and many others. His uncle was a long time member of the B.B. King Band and The Silas Green Review Show.

 

His professional musical journey began at the age of 15 making his rounds of the chitlin circuit on week-ends and during the summer traveling up and down Florida and Southern U.S. playing trumpet and other instruments.

 

Through the years, he along with his brother  "Fly Smith" played with bands that shared the stage and were opening acts for several nationally known artist such as James Brown, Kool & The Gang, The Delfonics, Gladys Knight & The Pips as well as playing with a temporary back up band for Rufus Thomas while touring in Florida. Ed is the Founder of the band and manager. He is responsible for promoting and marketing the group. He is also the Owner/Operator of Southern Soul Blues Radio and is the owner of a record store Re-Runz Records.

Angelo Carrasquillo

He goes by the name of Angel Carr -aka- Ace. He is originally from Brooklyn and now resides in Orlando, Florida.

 

Angel has been playing guitar since he was 9 years of age. Through the years he has horned his playing skills by playing with various R&B bands from various boroughs in and around New York, City. He has had the opportunity and privileged to play with such nationally known artist such as Barbara Mason, Billy Paul, Shannon and Blue Velvet. He also was instrumental in producing the R&B group Full Force before they found their way into the halls of success.

 

In addition to the above, his experiences and travels include playing live gigs with several local bands like:  "The 7th Decision", "Free Expression" of Brooklyn and "Ginseng" of Boston Massachusetts. He was also a member and co-founder of a singing group called "The Blakace" of Brooklyn, N.Y. Angel has also produced, arranged and recorded several original songs where the beats and arrangements were put together for the love of music.

 

Presently, his goal is to become instrumental in being one of the arrangers and writers for "After Hour", hoping to contribute his own style and influences. He has been performing with this band for (9) years

He started playing drums since the age of (5). Through the years he has mastered playing guitar bass and little keyboards. During his career he has played with various funk and jazz band throughout the New York and New Jersey club circuit. The most notable groups were the "Charles Johnson & Ebony Wills of Power" as well as "Forte of Funk".

After completing a two year course in computers, he took these skills and started his own recording studio "Tiss Recordings" in New York, City. This further launched his career as an audio technician, producer, writer and arranger in both gospel and secular music. After many years in New York he decided to move his business to Miami. Soon after, he relocated to Orlando. While perfecting his skills as a recording engineer, he played with a local blues band "Doc and The Boys". He presently plays drums for several churches. He has been with this band for (7) years.

Phil became interested in music especially the keyboard at a very early age. He began to listen to various artist and copy what they were playing. Phil has played keyboard in various churches which gave him his foundation. Phil has served in the U.S.A.F. , for (7) years. During his tour of duty Phil managed to perfect his skills while playing in various bands in the military. Phil was a keyboardist with a rock group based in Deland, Fl. Phil also is a sax player and has plans to eventually play both instruments whenever the need arise. Been with the band for over (2) years

Eddie is an accomplished bass player who has played in many funk and soul bands in the Central Florida area. His interest in playing the bass was at the age of (7). Since that time he has perfected his skills trough the years to become the bassist he is today. He was a member of the "Wesflo band" for many years. This was a popular dance band that played the central Florida circuit. After a long stint with them, he decided to become a serious member of the "The After Hour Band". Member for (1) year.
